Who We Are

As a parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, St. George continues to serve the needs of Orthodox Christians not only of Middle Eastern descent but from all backgrounds.

Today, our parish community is a wonderfully diverse family which exists to bring glory to the Name of Christ and to share Orthodox Christianity with everyone who would like to learn more about the Apostolic Faith of the Early Church.

The parish of St. George belongs to the family of Christian communities who are the direct descendants of the Church of Antioch, the place where the followers of Christ were first called “Christians” (Acts 11:26).

St. George is a warm and welcoming place. Please come and worship with us!

Our history

This Parish Is as Old as Orthodoxy in This Part of the Country

St. George was formed in 1903, and our first priest was the first man St. Raphael of Brooklyn ever ordained. Father Nicola Yanney farmed a homestead in Valley Township, was widowed at twenty-nine, and spent the next fourteen years traveling to Orthodox families scattered from the Canadian border to the Mexican one. More than a hundred communities and over nine hundred baptisms. He died of influenza in 1918, caught visiting the sick of this parish.

Families in this congregation are descended from the people he served.
